WGAE Foundation to Auction Julia Cookbook signed by Streep, Ephron

BY STAFF Attention movie buffs, foodies, and book collectors! The Writer’s Guild of America, East (WGAE) Foundation is auctioning a copy of Julia and Jacques: Cooking at Home autographed by Julia Child, Nora Ephron and Meryl Streep. The book, which is from Tom Fontana’s personal collection, is on auction on eBay through March 6, 2010. The auction is at http://tinyurl.com/wgaefauction1. “With Julie & Julia nominated for several Oscar awards, this signed book is a great piece of movie-related memorabilia that we’re putting to good use. The money raised from the auction will help further the Foundation’s mission to perpetuate storytelling,” said Tom Fontana, president of the WGAE Foundation. “On March 7th, someone will be the lucky winner and new owner of this amazing signed book, and the Foundation will have proceeds to continue its good work. I’m rooting for a bidding war.” Julia and Jacques: Cooking at Home is a companion piece to the PBS series (of the same name) where Julia Child and Jacques Pepin used different ingredients in each show to prepare a meal. Published by Alfred A. Knopf in 1999, the book on auction is signed by author Julia Child, Nora Ephron (who wrote the adapted screenplay and directed the movie Julie & Julia and is also a WGAE Foundation board member) and Meryl Streep (best actress nominee for her portrayal of Julia Child in Julie & Julia). The Writers Guild of America, East Foundation is the charitable foundation of the Writers Guild of America, East, the labor union representing writers in motion pictures, television, cable, new media, and broadcast news. The WGAE Foundation’s mission is to perpetuate the art and craft of storytelling, either by professionals or amateurs, through education and practical experience, on local, national and global levels; to find the next generation of writers in fiction, non-fiction, television, radio, film, theatre, and new media; to encourage WGAE members and staff to contribute their expertise to Foundation activities, thereby expanding the base and breadth of knowledge, as well as increasing the solidarity and power of the writing community in the larger world; and to work with other like-minded organizations in order to facilitate and expand the needs and goals of writers everywhere.
